Hosted by LUPE, RECENTS is the radio equivalent of a photo dump. A show that emerges out of all the deliberate piles of vinyl on the floor; the converted playlists from multiple streaming libraries; cassettes with no download code; FLACs ripped from the promo CDs; the browser tab groups; favorited tweets of just a YouTube link; the little unmute button on the Instagram slideshow clips; record label mailing lists that keep going to spam; and the new-used arrivals bin at the shop in the middle of nowhere that’s still somehow overpriced. RECENTS is an ode to, and embrace of, the randomness that comes from hoarding all genres and decades of music from every corner of the earth and mixing them together. And leaning into the fact that sometimes out of chaos, sequences form. Do Jan Jelinek and Janet Jackson go together, or were they just next to each other?

On RECENTS, expect to hear anything and everything, new and old, including guest DJ sets & live performances, and sometimes even compiling & discussing music that fits a theme (just to bring some order to it all).

This episode features guests wave Groove and Yourself In Peace.

wave Groove (Westley Ulit) is a music producer from Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley). Starting from an MPC and an audio engineering background, over the years he’s grew fond of learning the different cultures and styles of beats all over the world. wave Groove’s sound can be described as a versatile blend of hip hop, electronic, and R&B. He joined Beat Cinema in 2016, a music collective based in Los Angeles, CA dedicated to beat music culture around the world. Beat Cinema has been, for him and many others in the beat community, a home to share new music and gather as comrades. His most notable project to date is his ‘Time Traveller’ beat tape series in which he describes as a collection of beats and productions that reminds him of who he was at the moment of time he created them.

Yourself In Peace is an electronic music producer from Los Angeles, blending lofi, house, noise, and avant pop. Songs are built from fragments—overheard phrases, half-thoughts, and instinctive melodies—rather than traditional songwriting structures. Tracks move between distortion and clarity, letting tension and space resolve itself through glitched means. The work carries a hauntological quality—echoes of something familiar but out of reach. It’s music that feels immediate, unstable yet intentional. His new album BLINDSPOTS is out now.
