Perplexagon - the distillation ratio of sanity to clown playing possums or water bodies to hotter commodities are figures of importance. Skate the wind, inflate the light, rekindle dreams and re-dream the distillation ratio right. Just how much do they weigh if it’s all the way? How mush room are we talking?

From 1969-1977 Peter and Patricia Harleman and Klyd and Linda Watkins independently produced and self-released 10 volumes of “oral poetry magazines”. The “poems” on these 10 rare POETRY OUT LOUD LPs can be thought-provoking, absurd, sincere, confusing, beautiful and at times downright psychedelic and/or annoying. Improvisation obviously played a big part in their creation as did the use (and often abuse) of analog tape echo. I can’t help but imagine possible scenarios relating to these recordings. The acoustics sound like the average 70’s suburban den or living room, the microphones and consumer tape machines sound like Radio Shack specials, and the husband and wife “poets” sound like they’re recording themselves during cocktail-party games. “Shhh- everybody else quiet now, we’re hitting record”… “Wait honey, can you crank the echo some more? I wanna really feel it.”… “Hey Klyd, pass that joint real quick- I got a great one coming to me and we’re almost outta tape”. The Harlemans and Watkinses relocated many times during the production of this LP series (Topeka, Kansas, Madison, New Jersey and St. Louis, Missouri were all OUT LOUD PRODUCTIONS Headquarters at times) but it seems to my ears that the same microphones, tape machines and crazed inspiration traveled right along with them.
