With every episode of Continuum, host Motorist guides listeners through the past, present and potential futures of electronic music, in search of the points where styles and subcultures collide. Inspired by music writer Simon Reynolds’s concept of a “hardcore continuum” linking sound system culture and the halcyon days of raving to the birth of drum & bass, the show is about music that pushes forward, even when it’s looking back. This month we are joined by two forces keeping authentic jungle sounds alive in Los Angeles: BC Rydah and Drowncast.

BC Rydah is a veteran DJ and producer from Long Beach, California, where he founded the YESKA Beatz label in 2014. In addition to supplying the modern jungle scene with fresh wax, BC runs the official LA chapter of Konkrete Jungle, one of North America’s foundational jungle nights.

Drowncast is a Konkrete Jungle LA resident from the San Fernando Valley who channels the roots of jungle into a contemporary sound. As a DJ and producer with a quickly growing discography, his sets are known to blend deep selections from the golden era with exclusive originals and unreleased material.
