DJ Kerry - The Basement

Hosted Team member Greg Belson, a highly respected, LA-based DJ on the rare soul/funk scene, hosts the monthly dublab show 45 Live. It’s about the love of music, the love of vinyl and having an excellent old time of it. Whatever you do, keep it 45.

45 Live is a collective of DJs from across Europe and the USA who have come together to indulge in and celebrate their love of the mighty 45rpm 7″ single. Hailing from all corners of popular and niche music scenes, the love of the 45 is what drew them all together. Created by UK based DJs Boca 45 and Pete Isaac, 45 Live is fast growing into a record label, festival circuit and events brand, and regular club night session.

We’re hurtling headlong into September, more powerful than a speeding locomotive…we’re taking a trip to the West Country UK, specifically Bristol, where we find one of its favorite musical sons;

JOHN STAPLETON

John Stapleton has been DJing and promoting gigs and clubnights in his home town of Bristol for over three decades – from mod nights in the 1980s to hip hop and rare groove, acid house, acid jazz, breakbeat, funk, and Northern Soul.

He has shared a stage with artists as diverse as Roy Ayers, GOAT, Charles Bradley, and Femi Kuti; He’s DJed around the world from Iceland to Australia, and played regularly at festivals: Glastonbury, WOMAD and Shambala amongst others.

He compiled the groundbreaking ‘Dope on Plastic’ LPs for React Music (selling over 250,000 copies), and also 8 LPs for the Harmless label.
For the last few years, he’s concentrated more and more on collecting and playing the heaviest Afrobeat and Afrofunk records in their original releases – strictly vinyl, no reissues or bootlegs.

Since 2009, he’s also co-run Bristol’s finest vintage record shop – Wanted Records.

And now he’s slangin’ the rarities here just for you.

Your host Greg Belson bookends the set as ever with his well stacked racks of quality business, and this week….it’s a headlong dive into uptempo tunes, future club spins and what not, from the deeper side of the valley.

This is 45 Live!

Rinse your e-dials for the hot heaters on 7″ wax!
