Many of the guests in cherry custard come into mixing via non-traditional routes (filmmaking, curation, writing, performance, poetry, and so on), so it only felt right to cast a spotlight over those who have inspired host christeeeene’s experimental artistic practice so far. Not only those that use mixes within their visual practice, but those who use words to inform their mixing. The reader, the writer, the artist, the activist, the poet and performer; they’re all here and they’re all cherries.

Since its debut in 2013, the Radio Minus project has been dedicated to collecting, archiving, documenting and disseminating the hidden treasures of kiddy records produced for, or by children all around the world. Funded by a team of French artists and music lovers, Radio Minus frequently unpacks its collection in the framework of fancy-full DJ sets for young audiences, supported by an interactive video scenography. The purpose is clear: make the children and their elders dance upon music that they never heard of before.

Through the years, Radio Minus ended up releasing two compilations on the French label Born Bad Records (“Chevance, etc.” and “Prends le temps d’écouter, Tape Music, Sound Experiments and free folk songs from Freinet Classes”), organising an exhibition in Paris (“Miniatures, le disque pour enfants en France”), giving lectures or writing articles on several related topics (for Audimat, Syntone or Langue Pendue).

This selection made for Cherry Custard especially focuses on outstanding and twisted records involving children, mixed with a few educational sound media in the wake of the compilation “Prends le temps d’écouter.”
