dublab presents the Sounds of Now

Darone Sassounian is on a never-ending search for fresh sounds. Pulling records from his collection and from recent diggings, he aspires to share music that moves him each month here on Dublab. Darone is a DJ, Producer and Compiler from Los Angeles. He runs the label, Rocky Hill and was the compiler for the acclaimed compilation, Silk Road: Journey of the Armenian Diaspora (1971 – 1982). Darone also has a monthly residency at Club Tee Gee in Los Angeles where he plays all things from boogie, soul and house with special guests.

On today’s edition of the show, Darone invites DJ Stepmom. DJ Stepmom is an LA-based producer and DJ originally from Minneapolis, and one half of the electro-funk duo King Pari (Stones Throw/PPU). His sound leans heavily on vintage drum machines, guitar pedals, and thrift-store keyboards, shaping a style that’s as raw as it is playful. He takes over on the second half of the mix for guest selections.
