Version Sounds

“In the Spring of 2000, I was happy to have survived Y2K, but most importantly joyous that dublab.com had come into my life just a few months prior. Frosty asked me to program a radio show that would be 3 hours of live DJing 4 days a week; thus “Version Sounds” was born in the Fall of 1999. Prior to dublab, I had done 5 years of radio at my beloved KXLU 88.9 FM and had only released mix tapes, but this collection was my very first venture into mix CDs. It was recorded in one take at the original dublab studios (yeah Ridgewood!) and is entitled PACESPOP, a play on words of “space pop,” and it’s exactly that.
“This mix captures my love for drones, as well as poppy indie rock. My love affair with Stars of the Lid and Stereolab was a big influence. Only 100 copies were pressed on the highest quality CDs, provided and mastered by the legendary Phtalocyanine. I hope you like it. It was a blast putting it together and hearing it again brings back some fun memories. There was a companion to this mix, and it launched me into a tropical land that we will share later this Summer. Enjoy!” – Hoseh
