Episode 31 of Based Miami features the amorphous Yucky Poor, a self-taught producer, songwriter, rapper, singer, engineer, and anything else he sets his mind to at this point: he’s a jack of all trades. In this episode, we talk about his transition from experimental rap to alt-pop indie bangers, teaching himself to make music with little musical background, how Miami has inspired him to keep making art, and his creative visions turned to life through videos.
About Yucky Poor:
Born in South Florida, Yucky Poor uses eclectic genre-bending tactics to craft alt-pop bangers celebrated by thousands online.
Originally a producer and rapper, Yucky (born Jordan Abramowitz) began making music in 2015, self-taught off youtube before ultimately transitioning to pop music. With a distinct nasaly voice, Yucky is often cited for his deeply vulnerable and existential lyrics, using songs as a theraputic canvas to paint emotions. A wide range of influences, from Krautrock bands like CAN to The Drums to Kanye West, all subconsciously seep into the self-produced tunes.
Yucky’s first album POP UPS was a deep dive into experimental hip-hop, but BRB Selling Out (his 2nd release) follows his love affair with guitar which only grows stronger by the day. In March 2020, he released “Never Ending Bender”, a bittersweet indie banger about ending an already south-bound relationship. In November 2020 he released “Go Outside” along with Miami-based indie pop group Cannibal Kids.
2021 sees the release of Yucky’s second full length LP. Stay tuned.
