The Arab World contains a vast, rich culture often misunderstood by the West. Many staples of popular music, like the Byzantine scales and minor chords of Surf Rock, can be traced back to the region. Sadly, it is the wars of these countries that often capture our attention – from the continued conflict between Palestine and Israel, to the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban. While it’s important to stay informed of such tragic events with global repercussions, we can also pause and celebrate the region’s powerful musical legacy.
