RECENTS
11.04.24

Hosted by LUPE, RECENTS is the radio equivalent of a photo dump. A show that emerges out of all the deliberate piles of vinyl on the floor; the converted playlists from multiple streaming libraries; cassettes with no download code; FLACs ripped from the promo CDs; the browser tab groups; favorited tweets of just a YouTube link; the little unmute button on the Instagram slideshow clips; record label mailing lists that keep going to spam; and the new-used arrivals bin at the shop in the middle of nowhere that’s still somehow overpriced. RECENTS is an ode to, and embrace of, the randomness that comes from hoarding all genres and decades of music from every corner of the earth and mixing them together. And leaning into the fact that sometimes out of chaos, sequences form. Do Jan Jelinek and Janet Jackson go together, or were they just next to each other?
On this month’s episode, LUPE is joined by two special guests, June West and DJ Lil Spoon.
June West is a Los Angeles-based artist with a special affinity for soul music and other mysterious rhythms of life. As a DJ, producer, and designer in the underground music scene, she explores how music can be used as a tool for healing and self-transformation.
