Underground Institute Festival special – curated by festival co-curator, artist Mary Ocher.

The UI Festival special features music from the festival program; Taking place in Berlin Dec 8-10 (unless the pandemic, or something much, much wilder surprises us!). It will feature very exciting talks and workshops, performances, DJ sets and sound pieces by some of our favorite artists, some of which are on the UI roster (Ya Tosiba, Martin Rev, Limpe Fuchs, Das Kinn of Les Trucs), some we have collaborated with in our UI Picks radio series (KMRU, Cedrik Fermont, Xiu Xiu, El Khat) and others we’ll be collaborating with for the first time (Zoe McPherson, Lolina, DJ Marcelle). And we’re very happy for the special partnership with dublab, and for all of the support and attention the festival is generating.

This show features the music of Jocy de Oliveira – Brazilian electronic music pioneer featured in “Eletronica: Mentes” – the documentary about underground music in Brazil that will be screened on the last day of the festival at the gallery (which will be dedicated to all ages), Les Trucs – German minimal electronic outfit, one half of which – Das Kinn will be performing on the 2nd day of the festival at the club location Panke, Ya Tosiba – the cutting edge Azerbaijani Helsinki-based producer who will also be performing on the second day, the wonderful instrumentalist Ka Baird who will be playing on the first day at the chapel room, Belgian composer and festival co-curator Manu Louis – who will prepare a soundwalk with local children for the final day of the festival. And Martin Rev of Suicide who will be joining myself, Molly Nilsson and Mueran Humanos for the festival opening talk on integrity within underground music.
