At 4 PM on Sept. 27th, 1999, Aurelito, Shakespeare and DJ Daz of I & I Sound System dropped the needle on the inaugural broadcast live from the dublab studio in Los Angeles. Known for their Chocolate Bar party series in Los Angeles, I & I, translated their signature sound to a weekly dublab radio program. For their maiden dublab voyage I & I dreamed up a fantasy mobile sound system in the form of an ice cream truck that cruised around the world booming tunes. For this first episode, I & I swung through NYC to scoop up DJs Ming & FS for a guest DJ set.

Little did we know, 25 years later dublab would still be here—pushing boundaries, nurturing creativity, and staying true to our core values: elevating diverse voices, fostering community, and spreading positive music vibrations. These Polaroids captured the moment of that first broadcast way back in 1999!
