2092 presents... Funk Radio

Sound Colour Vibration is very proud to present the first release in our new mix series with the illustrious dublab called “Sound & Colour Lab.” As a series designed to dive further into the different shades of past and present music culture we are promoting at SCV, we aim to bridge many cultures with this new project and shed further light on musical gems found all around the world from every era of the 20th and 21st century. We have some very special guests lined up for Sound & Colour Lab with a list of resident DJ’s who will actively present through this new channel of ours in the year. Our resident list will be announced next month while we present some mixes from the collections of our inner circle.

“Celestial Dance” is our first mix with dublab and is a direct homage to the many forms of music that have defined our coverage over the last 2 years, containing song merges in various moments that are exlcusive to this mix. The intro for Jimi Hendrix’s 1968 landmark LP “Electric Ladyland” is merged over a collaborative piece from Brainfeeder alumni Matthewdavid and Flying Lotus to surreal affect while Acid Mothers Temple has been re-modified by a manipulated Celtic bagpipe piece from a recent Tompkins Square compilation. The 21st century prog musings of Cuneiform Records Guapo is met by Madlib’s special jazz moniker Yesterdays New Quintet and transplanted into the world of Alpha Pup Records latest producer to sign on the imprint, Great Dane. This is just one example of the type of transitions and worlds you can expect to transverse through over the course of Celestial Dance.

Many different sound types are represented in the sequence, culminating in a truly eclectic mix that has little to do with time, region or any other connecting elements of genres or scenes. This is pure love and expression through sound from visionaries all over the world. Visionary UK based artist James Roper has graciously allowed us to his previous work “Ataxic Reversal” as the accompanying art to this first release of ours.
