On this month’s episode of The Archive of Feelings, Tana Yonas and Maheder “Maha” Aekalu join T-Kay to play an all vinyl set focusing on global sounds of resistance
TANA YONAS
Tana Yonas collects songs like souvenirs, each recalling precious moments found leafing through dusty record shops or the catching of sonic fragments on the radio of bumpy taxi rides during her travels. She delicately guilds together these memories and shares music from lesser known and under represented musicians from across the decades. She is a part of the analog outfit In Sheep’s Clothing and you can find her in venues across Los Angeles giving talks or spinning tunes.
MAHEDER “MAHA” AEKALU
Maheder Aekalu is an Addis Abeba native cultural worker with a focus on cultural productions from East Africa and its diaspora. She maintains an archive of found videos, vinyls and tapes, and performs live as a music selector.
Currently based in Los Angeles, Maheder produces trans-cultural between CDMX, Oaxaca and LA, centered around music, food, and coffee with her collaborative project Lakou. She also programs events and works as a music coordinator at the Filipino restaurant Lasita in Chinatown.
As an archivist / librarian, T-Kay brings an eye and ear for the historical, unique, and transnational to her musical curation. The Archive of Feelings is a celebration of sounds and struggles of everyday life across linguistic and geographic boundaries gathered through serendipitous findings from around the world. T-Kay joined the dublab family as an intern in 2006 and hosted her first show “The Afternoon Love-In” in early 2007.
