Discoteca 3ala Mars: Habla Tu Verdad

05.17.25

Karim & Mara are soulmate homies that met in their late youth and quickly discovered that Cairo and Miami culture bleed into each other in magic ways. Discoteca 3ala Mars presents explorations of musical lineages between Mars, the 305 and the broader musical traditions of the surrounding regions and cultures. The intention is to explore and enjoy sounds that shape the experiences of third culture kids outside of the places they’re from.

In our episode this month, “Habla Tu Verdad,” we sit with Kari aka Trankis in a heartfelt conversation on growing up in Southeast LA, navigating life as a grassroots artist within the movement space and hopes for the future. They are a brilliant illustrator and fire chingona DJ who has played all over town for nearly a decade. Bitchimawitchh ran into Trankis at their event last month and asked Trankis to come on air to reflect on years of sharing spaces from afar in LA, as each leaned into their personal practices. Wadood, as always, brings elements of thoughtful reflection to space, place and time throughout the hour. We hope you enjoy. <3

Kari aka Trankis (they/she) is a non-binary artist and DJ from South East Los Angeles. Noche Diva Mix
This mix is dedicated to my fellow gays, girls, divas & trans people all over the world. I offer this mix as a token of gratitude & love. I included some of my favorite tracks many of which remind me of community & loved ones, enjoy <3

Azulado Mix Vol. 1
This mix is dedicated to my angsty younger virgo self. I wanted to highlight some of the moody, dance tracks I loved listening to on my ipod shuffle. Younger Kari would have burned a CD with this mix to trade with a friend.
