UI Picks is curated by the Underground Institute, an international agency for adventurous music and platform for culture. UI Picks episodes are tailored for selected underground radio stations.

Crisis Radar was curated by experimental musician and researcher André Uhl. The broad variety of obscure sounds perfectly depict the feeling of being in a state of constant alert in times of multiple personal and global crisis – while being prepared and seeing them coming.

Based in Berlin with a master’s degree in Futures Research, André Uhl is well-suited to evoke the cryptic visions of our age. Merging viscous audio design with lurking bass and synth lines, his work slides seamlessly through the realms of brutalist music and introspective ambience. With his productions, André takes the listener on a journey through the hazy past and the twilight of the future that is as intimate as it is crushing.

André’s debut album “I hope the roof flies off, and I get sucked up into space” brought together 13 writers to build an accompanying world of short stories spanning the gamut from sci-fi and horror to avant-garde poetry. His latest LP “Relax and Implode” explores alienation with a visceral hand, melding squirming electronics to the delicate element of field recordings as the rhythmic foundation for a driving and hypnotic work.
