UI Picks is curated by the Underground Institute, an international agency for adventurous music and platform for culture. UI Picks episodes are tailored for selected underground radio stations.

This episode is curated by the wonderful Lollise – musician, visual artist and fashion designer from Botswana, currently living in NYC. After years of touring and recording with Akoya Afrobeat, Underground System and the FELA! band, she’s been releasing spectacular Afro-futuristic, experimental pop pieces over the past few years (see her videos for songs Afronaut and Alien Love).

Lollise takes us on a musical journey through her childhood and adolescence and into some of the current music she loves and makes right now. In this episode, we travel with her to Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, South Africa and regions inside those countries, hearing bubblegum, mbaqanga, Xitsonga music, sungura, famo, kwaito, house kwasa and more.
